Easter
Yesterday was Easter and Joey was oh so handsome. He had a lot to say and Pam, his nurse, kept making kissy noises, and he was trying to copy her back. It was the sweetest thing to watch. He got dressed up in his bowtie and actually wore pants for the big day. I even dressed up in an Easter dress hoping to get good pictures with him, but I didn't have a chance to get those photos. On the respiratory side, Joey was doing an excellent job. At first he wasn't saturating well and was all over the place, but Pam switched his pulse oxe and he was back in business easily hitting the high 90s and a hundred. It made me feel much better. This was also the day he took his lasex, so I don't know if that was why he was doing so well, whereas toward the end of the day yesterday he was struggling some to meet the the higher end of the goals. Since today is the off day of the lasex, I will have to ask Daniel to see how he is doing. Daniel thinks he may need more gabepentin to offset his fussiness, but Scarlett, Pam, and I didn't seem to think Joey was fussy. Perhaps he may have been more fussy for Daniel, since he has to work most of the day and can't play with him. Joey also stayed up for a long time yesterday from 10 AM to 3 PM (when he finally fell asleep for his nap). I woke him up at 6:30 PM and he was wide awake to play. I had to leave him at about 8 to eat our Easter dinner, which was from Stoney River.
I called his nurse at before I went to bed and this morning, and Simone said that he did well with the mask last night. He woke up to fuss for a few minutes, but then went right back to sleep. It seems like the mini me mask in extra small is working way better for him than all of the other masks. There are some tricks to the mask that I have to walk through since the respiratory therapists are not training on this equipment. I'm thankful to Vanderbilt for letting us trial these masks, since this is so out of the norm for them.
It was so hard to leave Joey last night. We moved to pod A, the step down pod, since he has shown stability for a long time now. I think the boy is ready to come home. He is so ready to play and loves to talk. Speaking of playing, we sat down and played Monopoly as a family after a very tasty and fulfilling Easter meal from Stoney River. Yours truly was ahead before we went to bed last night and it was good for our souls to connect as a family like that. I look forward to beating the rest of my family again when we finish this game. :)
