Almost Home!
I think we may actually be heading home tomorrow. We have him completely on all of the home equipment. The oxygen compressor sounds like a lawn mower. The bipap was a struggle this evening, because the mask got discombobulated. We are going to have to learn to move faster because he desaturates from anger, and also waiting on us to get the mask to his face. We realized that today, it's not a two person job, but a three person job to get the thing on his face. I did convince our pulmonologist to allow us to take home a ram nasal cannula, another delivery method for the bipap or high flow oxygen, without a mask. We will see if Joey tolerates that better, or if we need to pull it out if he is having a particularly tough night with the mask. It will also allow us to deliver high flow that is non-invasive, if there is ever a need. It's a totally new thing to Vanderbilt, that they have not used, so maybe this will work and will be great. We took Joey on his first stroller ride around A pod at Vanderbilt today, and I am ecstatic. I'm excited that we will be together as a family again, with the addition of Joey. I'm excited that Rowan and Claire will get to be a part of his life. I love that boy so much. We have been here for 7 months. These nurses, doctors, respiratory therapists, and support staff are very much like family at this point. We have been so blessed that they have been Joey's support system and have rooted us on. We will miss seeing them, but we know there is a new chapter ahead for Joey. Now we have just got to survive this coranvirus mess!
