Mixed Respiratory Support
On March 26th we trialed a liter of low flow nasal canula at about 1 PM, and Joey desaturated at about 10 PM. He was doing so well initially and then just couldn't keep up. We had his care conference that same afternoon, and pulmonology agreed to let us trial bipap in the evening and nasal cannula during the day. Last night was our first attempt. They found a mask to fit Joey, although it was large, but Joey tolerated it well. Daniel said he was also very restful when the mask was put on his face. I heard that he he handled the mask well through the night, so that was good news. He got put on nasal canula again at a liter and blended oxygen of 60 percent at about 1. It's almost 6 PM and he is still holding his own and saturating well. Scarlett and I gave him a bath after we put in that canula, I held him for a while, and he fell asleep around 2 for his long afternoon nap. He is stirring right now, so I sense that he is about to get up. Hopefully, this trial will work and become a long term solution for him to come home!
I'm amazed that the Care conference went so well. What cracked me up was Daniel prepared and printed an outline for everyone in our meeting. He passed it out and led that conference like it was a work business meeting going through each bullet point. I was ready for him to pull out his power point presentations. LOL. I think everyone was appreciative that he took the time to organize his thoughts and made it easy to follow. Daniel also had a good point that it's always a good idea to go into meetings prepared with plans to lead the meeting so you don't get lost in other's peoples agendas.
