2.5 Liters and a Card from ASI in Florida!
Joey had another excellent day. He stayed at his 2.5 flow on vapotherm and was saturating really well- in the high 90s to 100. I held him for a couple of hours, and we looked into each other's eyes while I sang to him. I think he likes my evening concerts, as I hope the rest of the NICU does because there are no doors in our pod. Everyone HAS to listen to these concerts! Joey was so happy today and was very alert. He was enjoying rolling from his side to back and playing with his toys.
We met with another pulmonology doctor today, and he said that he would try to get a sleep study in for Joey to see if he has any obstruction during his sleep. A bronchostomy is supposed to be more invasive than a sleep study? I also learned the Joey's CO2 output isn't the greatest, but he has learned to compensate for that metabolically. A good question to ask is why is the CO2 so high. The only solution would be a bipap or a trach as our pulmonologist friend suggested. I don't think that this particular pulmonologist was quite open to our mixed use respiratory support of cannula during the day and bipap at night. I think I'm going to have to bake cookies for their next meeting, and of course pray that God will lead and direct this issue.
I received a really nice card from the Progressive/ASI underwriters in Florida. They sent a picture of their team with some kind words in the card that everyone signed. It was so extremely thoughtful and exciting to know that Joey is prayed for and thought about by a group of people all the way in Florida! This will definitely go in his scrap book.
I have a feeling Joey will be weaned to 2 liters tomorrow, and I hope and pray that he has another good day.
