Two Good Days and can we explore some other oxygen options?
Joey had a good day yesterday. He was on a flow of 33% for a lot of the day. He was doing very well with keeping his oxygen saturations up throughout the day, even with cares. His work of breathing also looked okay. They will be weaning him to a flow of 3 today, since clinically he looked li8ke he was doing well. He is currently about 8.5 lbs.
Today in rounds, we need to ask about the gtube granulation, gtube looseness, and follow up with respiratory therapy with the redness in his left nostril.
I spoke to a mom, Karla Duerson, in one of the trisomy groups about her 9 month old baby, who was discharged at 8 months. Her baby had a large VSD repair and had some pulmonary hypertension that she was not on medication for. She said that positive pressure helps her baby to ventilate better, especially with PH and low muscle tone. Her baby holds on to sodium bicarbonate to adjust the PH-as this may be a correlation between the PH and CO2. Her baby's game changer was using a CPAP at night and a flow of 1 throughout the day with nasal cannula. Her baby is hypersensitive to infections and fevers. This sounds awfully familiar with Joey. I just want to have the extra support at home, in case something like this occurs.
Again, I want to explore things that are outside of the box for Joey so that we can set him up for success at home.
