Playful Days
Joey spent most of his day awake. Daniel said he was squealing at his gym with joy today. He loves to get himself worked up batting at his book hanging from his gym. I don’t think he took many naps today, because he kept himself entertained all throughout the day.
Respiratory wise, they did not make any changes. They are still keeping him at his flow of 1 and he hovered with his blended oxygen percent somewhere between 35-40 all day. The pulmonologist visited today and she thinks that Joey will grow out of his need for extra oxygen as he gets older. His malacia is considered mild. That was encouraging news to hear. She also is considering weaning him from sildenifil since she thinks his pulmonary hypertension was only temporary. Before this is done, another echocardiogram should be repeated. Joey was weaned off of lasix today since the resident didn’t think he no longer needed it.
Our bottle feeds didn’t go so well today. Joey seems to have some acid reflux or something that is causing him to spit it up. We will keep trying , but I’m realizing it’s a fine balance of not pushing too hard.
He also got another hearing test today and we discovered that Joey can hear, but there is some mild to moderate hearing loss. Daniel said Joey jumped at the first sound that the lady played. She ended up playing the loudest sound because she thought he was deaf. He was definitely not deaf with his reaction and we were concerned she made him deaf by his response. It certainly woke him up! She didn’t get to fully complete the test because it took us so long to get him back to sleep after that shock. She also left the stickers on his forehead after she left. He was quite a funny sight.
We have really enjoyed an alert and playful Joey these past few days! He was so tired from his fun and playful day when we left him this evening.
