Happy Baby and Joey is 4 months old!
They moved Joey to half a liter of oxygen-unblended oxygen that is just 100 percent-similar to what he will go home with. The same day he was moved to it, by the time the night nurse hit her evening shift, she had weaned him down to 200 milliliters because he kept saturating at 100-but bumped him back up to 300 milliliters. He's been cruising on 300 for the last two days now. She did have to bump him up to 400 milliliters when he was upset from being in a dirty diaper. This morning when Daniel walked in, he said Joey was hitting 100 percent saturation from being asleep, but was 95 when he woke up. The idea is to continue to wean his oxygen to just room air to where he won't need the support. The pulmonologist seems to think that he won't need any support with time and growth. I hope that is the case, but skeptical me looks at his work of breathing and I think it may be a while for that. His work of breathing has improved dramatically though, and this boy (and God) continues to surprise me. I'm really proud of the kiddo. Daniel face timed to show me Joey playing with his beloved gym. He kept hitting his toys and squealing with joy. It was fun to watch.
Yesterday they started his feeds back up to 90 minutes with an hour break-I believe? He was being fed continuously, but he has to work back to taking his feeds in a shorter period of time, because it's not ideal to be fed continuously without any breaks. That doesn't work in the real world.
They also stopped his lasix medication a few days ago and so far he's handling that well . The only drug left is his sildenifil for pulmonary hypertension, and his need for that will be reevaluated after he gets his echocardiogram.
His bottle feeding is going very slow. It takes him a long time to get in very little. He will either fall asleep during his feeding or just appear disinterested.
He has been steadily gaining weight. He gained about 30 grams last night and is a little over 7 pounds.
The kid has come a long way!
