Some Spit Up and Full Feeds

Yesterday they weaned Joey from a flow of 4 liters to a flow of 3 liters. I was so nervous about this decrease in flow, as I am every time.  The first night his lungs had to adjust to this and he required more oxygen with this lessened flow, but today he caught up and his need for oxygen decreased. As the night nurse explained to me that sometimes it just takes some time for a patient to catch up.  Today he hovered around needing 24-26 percent, whereas the day before he had to sit at 30-31 percent of oxygen, so he did manage to adjust. He also gained a few grams last night too.

This afternoon, they started feeding his stomach instead of his intestines.  This change was made around noon, and this evening at about 7 PM, he experienced a major spit up so they have paused his foods.  I think they are doing 18 ml per hour.  He will also have one less tube going through his nose, especially considering that he had pulled out the extra tube twice yesterday.  I think his stomach is just going to have to adjust to going back to getting his feeds.  It's been a while since he has been fed this way.

Clonodine has also gone to being administered every 24 hours-so almost off those drugs! Yay! This has been a long process!

On the fun side, I put a mirror in front of his face and he enjoyed looking at himself. He also spent some time talking to his dad!  Joey also has his first bout of acne. It’s cracking us up!
