Screaming, Pumping, and Driving!
Joey had a quiet day yesterday until about 7 PM. Daniel said that he had a four hour moment of just crying. We think it was due to his precedex being removed and having him experience a major drug withdrawal. He had to be given some morphine to get him calmed down. He managed to sleep through the night once he was calm. Once he woke up, he had to receive another stitch because something had migrated. He was given another shot of morphine to get through that moment and I was able to hold him for a little bit over an hour, until he had a major blowout. We have determined that he will let us know when he's got a wet diaper or a blowout. Once we changed that, he has been asleep since. He's currently enjoying sleeping in his bouncer.
I spent the night last night in his hospital room, since they had also weaned his other peep from 2 to 0 and switched him from bi pap to complete c pap. If I can, I like to sleep in his room to observe any changes if anything major goes on through the night. He mostly slept through the night this past evening, as he did the night before. I've also noticed his cries have gotten louder. We can almost hear him from outside of his room. This is progress to me, because maybe his lungs are getting stronger and he has the energy to cry when displeased.
This morning, Daniel and I snuck out to 8th and Roast where he had a really good nitro cold brew. It was so smooth-even drinking it black. I had a pistachio cappuccino and a bacon and cheese scone that was made with homemade her biscuits. That scone melted in my mouth. I want to go back and try their sausage roll. I am pretty confident that their hearty pastries are pretty good.
Yesterday I drove Claire, Rowan, and my parents to Claire's scrimmage in Gatlinburg. I got a taste of pumping, driving, volleyball season, and traveling yesterday. It is going to be a challenge managing all that. Because I had to pump and driving in Knoxville is nowhere like driving in Nashville (I had no idea what to do with myself with the open road and not having to watch out for cars to cut me off. I actually drove up to the speed limit because we weren't in bumper to bumper traffic) I had Rowan drive us. My intention was to take over when we got to Gatlinburg so that I could drive us up that mountain, but as Rowan kept driving, I thought-why not let him keep going? As he drove up that mountain, I started to look to the side of the road and established that any slight deviation from the road would cause us to drive off that mountain. That's when my screaming at Rowan to slow down started, because I saw my life flash before my eyes. Rowan told me he was already going 15 miles an hour and Claire told me that grabbing the Oh (insert 4 letter word that starts with an S) handle would not change the situation. She had a good point. During this process, my dad was telling Rowan to relax from the back seat. We managed to make it up the mountain safely, and the whole ordeal makes me laugh with all the mixed messages and screaming Rowan had to endure. He handled the situation alright, and I am proud of him for remaining calm. Claire actually told me that she can tell who is the most favored driver in the family according to how often I screamed during the drives. Haha.
We also had an agenda to get Claire to the winter dance in time. She had to change into her dress at the gas station-my dad (and okay me too) was worried that she might get kidnapped at the gas station so he checked up on her of course, and she did her make up in the van. I also had to pump and drive at the same time-and I think my mom was amazed that I could do this. Thank goodness for eastern time and transitioning to central time, because we made it to the dance just in time!
