A Couple of Good Days
Joey had an excellent day yesterday. He did have a blood pressure incident overnight (not this past night, but the night before) where his blood pressure dropped low, but they were able to bump him back up. They think the drop was attributed to his clonodine and suldenefil given to him at the same time, so it was suggested that they be given 30 minutes apart. The following day, yesterday, he was alert and awake, did not experience too much aggravation from withdrawals, and tolerated his vapotherm for another day. They did keep with the same plan of staying on CPAP in the evening on a peep of 6. Last night though, they took an x-ray and noticed that some gas or bowels had an irregular pattern, and GI visited him this morning. He may have to get his hernia repaired before he leaves to go home. Today the plan is to take his vapotherm from 3 kilos to 2 kilos, and to stay on cpap this evening. He is having some difficulty with his weight gain, so they may introduce lipids to his feeds, but they are going to give him a couple of days of increased feeds first to see if it is needed. From what I understand, they want to avoid lipids, because it can be irritating to his stomach.
On a more fun note, Nick Coury from Hermitage Hills, came to take our family photos. It was such a blessing to our family, and we were lucky that Joey was happy and in a good mood!
Daniel had to head home to cook for Vanessa's birthday party this evening and I had to take Claire to a friend's birthday party. We were so fortunate that our friend, Sherry, came to sit with Joey for the evening. She sang to him, calmed him down when needed, and called to notify me that they were moving our hospital room down the hall, in which she also moved our room. I am overwhelmed with her love for Joey and our family. I could not stop thanking her for being there with Joey, so that we could go home and attend to our other family duties and also just sit at home for the evening together. She was so sweet and kind to do this for us. As a woman, I was struck by her beauty that truly came from her heart. Her act and gift of service ministered to my heart.
My hopes and prayers for Joey today-that he continues to improve his respiratory status, growth, and that his hernia is not too serious.
