Joey had a fantastic day and night
Joey is starting to show signs of coming back to his normal self. He cruised on a flow of 6 with 43 percent oxygen on vapotherm all day yesterday with no desaturations, even with plays and care. He was loving life. Today we are planning to wean him down to a flow of 5 and observe how he does. He did not really show any work of breathing signs on a flow of 6, so hopefully the trend will continue with his flow of 5. ENT is coming to do a scope and evaluate his upper airway for any obstructions or inflammation from his recurring reflux. His past airway evaluation did not show any obstruction. I am wondering if he is still floppy up top as it is noted that Dr. Hatch had some difficulty with intubating him. It will be interesting to see what ENT says. This process is nerve wracking.
Update: Joey did extremely well with his flow of 5 around lunch time. When the change was initially made, he was bumped up to 52 percent and was weaned to 47 percent overnight, and his oxygen saturations were in the high 90s according toe the night nurse. They plan on weaning him to Flow of 4 at some point in the afternoon on 2/14/20, just to continue to give him more time.
